Khamsa Tours & Treks was founded in 2004 by Sonam Penjor who began his career in the only hotel in Bhutan that was run by the Government  in 1974. He worked for 7 years in the then Bhutan Hotel and rose to the key position of hotel Manager. In 1981, he started his own company and is still actively managing it today. The Khamsa group in addition to tourism is involved in construction,  heavy Machinery hiring unit and Khamsa mineral export.

Khamsa Tours & Treks is licensed by the Tourism council of Bhutan which is the Government body overlooking all tourism activities in Bhutan. Please check the council’s website www.tourism.gov.bt for further information. Khamsa Tours is a proud member of the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators, ABTO, since its inception and have been an active member till date. The website for the association is www.abto.org.bt

Karma Galay

Khamsa Tours and Treks is managed by our Chief Executive Officer Mr. Karma Galay, a tourism professional who has over 9 years of experience in tourism industry in various capacities since graduating from Delhi University in 1996. He has many years of guiding experience  for both cultural and trekking tours and has firsthand knowledge of the ground realities. At Khamsa, we are aware of the requirements of western guests and will show you the authentic Bhutanese culture, nature and experiences.

Khamsa Tours and Treks head office is based in Thimphu, which is the capital of Bhutan. The office’s of  the Tourism Council and the Royal Airline, Druk Air are also situated in Thimphu. At Khamsa, we have a team of dedicated staff who put in their utmost effort to deliver an unforgettable holiday experience.

Chris Major

Chris Major, now overseeing the UK Promotion of Khamsa Tours teamed up with Karma and the team several years ago to promote and oversee bookings for the tours. Chris is lucky to have family based in Bhutan and has travelled the region extensively. Chris not only knows the area very well, he has a unique insight to Bhutan which is a massive bonus when planning a trip to the region. Based in Telford, Shropshire, the always joking Chris is supported by his ever smiling wife Niki, who are both on hand to offer advice to anyone wishing to tour the Himalayan region. You will see them at several shows through out the year and if you dont, they’re here on tour !
